Deep History
Harald
Victor Uccello was born 1953 in Wien. He grew up in Wien & then
in Zug, in Oberägri, in Stuttgart, in Graz, back in Wien &
finally in München.
There, from late
1970 to early 1973 he learned photography with John Jensen from San
Francisco working in the advertising-agency Klages &
Partner.
1972 he published his first
book with short texts called ich
möchte in einem atomkrieg sterben (I
wanna die in a nuclear war).
John Jensen
encouraged HVU to return to study & so he started to attend
evening classes of marketing in the Werbefachliches Institut.
From
autumn 1973 to early 1978 he studied painting at the Kunstakademie
München with the painter Günter Fruhtrunk
In
the same time he studied filmhistory with Enno Patalas at the
Filmmuseum im Stadtmuseum & with Helmut Färber at the Hochschule
für Film & Fernsehen.
Although he
actually wanted to learn how to paint figures due to the influences
at artschool & the München art scene his work turns more &
more abstract very fast culminating in monochrome white paintings
from late 1974 to early 1976.
In early
1974 he founded the Contemporary Art Gallery in Elisabethstrasse 3
(Schwabing) where he starts showing the works of a few friends as
well as his own.
The movies: Between
1975 and 1987, after having done various sketches without sound, for
example Neusiedl & Warschawa-
City of Songs he realized 20
sound-movies- twelfe of them feature length- in Super 8 & the
last one in video, mostly in colaboration, especially with Bibiena
Houwer, Joan Waltemath, Tom Wright, Seth Tillett & Andrew
Bergen.
Kean, Manfred, Chris, Dangerous
Islands, Worthless, Für
Opa, Dear
Jimmy, You, I, Enthusiasts, Mono, Anabelle, Henny, Only
You, O.K.
Today Tomorrow, Measure
Taken, Seventy
Rolls to Rome, Güle
Güle, Candide
in The Americas.
Many of these
movies are deconstructions of plays & novels yet the documentary
element takes an equally important role.
Harald
V. Uccello considered these Super 8 sound-movies immaterial paintings
& he projected them, all originals, regularly in film clubs,
cinemas, galleries, museums & other public spaces.
From
1976 to 1980 he collaborates in action-, music-, painting-,
scriptwriting- & directing- projects, does camerawork,
stagedesign- & acting jobs with Sepp Berlinger, Raimund Deckert,
Gioia Meller Marcovicz, Mike Patzelt, Robert Knon, Charly Heil, Georg Koch, Gisela
Stelly, Eric Mitchell, James Nares, Garry Indiana, Lynn Davis,
D.M.Marcovicz Bontjes van Beek, S.Szczesny, Hermann Nitsch &
others.
Between 1977 & 1979 he
collaborated on several theatre-, opera- & film-productions of
Werner Schroeter.
From 1980 until 1987
H.V. Uccello lived in Manhattan & for some time also in Hamburg &
Berlin.
In early 1988 after a four-month
trip to Nepal, where he shot & co-directed together with Franz
Cristoph Giercke the video Loxin.
Initiation of a Young Shaman, H.V.U.
moved to Paris.
He decides to finally
concentrate on figurative painting. He works in deserted factories
with other painters from all over the world in studios at the
Montmartre, Buttes Chaumont (Usine
ephemere) & in the outskirts of
Paris first near Metros-station Robespierre & finally in Pantin
(Le ventre de la baleine).
Soon
upon arrival in Paris he meets Maï T Segura at the Centre Pompidou,
where Loxin is
screened in the exhibition Les
Magiciens de la Terre.
Besides
their individual art activities Maï T Segura & Harald
V Uccello immediately collaborate on Life Art and photo-actions.
In
summer 1992 they move to the Toscana & they have their first
exhibition together with photography & paintings in 1993.
From
summer 1994 until autumn 1999 they live and work in the Penedes
region, where they also cultivate a biological vegetable-, fruit- &
flower garden.
Since the beginning of
2000 MTS & HVU live in Barcelona.
In
2001 they start to publish the cyber magazine www.
fotyart.org.
FoTyArT becomes also the
name of their production association.
From
to 2003 on MTS & HVU curate & organize various group shows
with digital art as well as Life Art festivals & create/produce a
cycle of videos about the Born district for InterFragmentos an
exhibition of the collective m.a.p.a., winning the first prize of
Art-Creation awarded by the CC St.Agusti in Barcelona in 2004.
